The year 1857 was the year many hopeful towns were started in Anderson County and Valley City was one of those towns. Near where the North Fork of Pottawatomie Creek and the South Fork of Pottawatomie Creek converged together Dr. Thomas Lindsay survey and staked out a town. He named the town Valley City. However, no improvements were ever made on the site and another town in the county only existed on paper.
